This exciting new vacation introduces you to Salzburg and its surrounding area, and people and places along the Danube from Linz to Budapest, in the most active, engaged and fun ways imaginable. Spend three nights in Salzburg and enjoy a guided walk of the city. We take you for a day to the Salzkammergut area: visit Emperor Franz Josef’s imperial villa in Bad Ischl, or join a guided hike up to Siriuskogel Mountain.

You may also choose from a variety of optional excursions. Then drive to Linz, via the Austrian Lake District, where you will board your Avalon river cruise ship. The choice is always yours: whether you taste locally produced cheese and beer brewed by Trappist monks nearLinz, or hike along the Danube trails for spectacular views; bike to an ancient border defense near Mauthausen or visit World War II’s largest concentration camp; paddle a canoe or meet with a local produce grower in the Wachau Valley.

Day 1 Munich—Salzburg: transfer to Salzburg

Day 2 Salzburg. Excursion to Salzkammergut area:

Day 4 Salzburg—Linz (Embarkation):

Day 7 Spitz—Vienna:
choice of canoe tour down the Danube; bike tour from Spitz to Krems with a stop in Dürnstein to sample local specialties; or Wine World Experience with tasting; or local encounter showcasing regional products

Day 8 Vienna:
choice of bike tour, or jogging tour, or guided tour, visit to Belvedere Palace to see Klimt’s Kiss; or Vienna Experimental experience, to meet with local people

Day 9 Vienna:
choice of early risers guided tour, with breakfast at a Viennese café; or guided tour, see Habsburg private art collection and the Italian and Dutch Masters Gallery, or guided tour, see Habsburg private art collection and the Military Museum

Day 10 Visegrád—Danube Bend:
in Visegrád, choice of medieval knights tournament, or guided hike in Danube-Ipoly National Park; scenic cruising around the Danube Bend

Day 11 Budapest (Disembarkation): choice of guided tour with funny language lesson, or guided bike tour, or guided tour

Day 12 Budapest:
