Rhône
From the Swiss Alps to Mediterranean Marseille
Rhône River Cruises
A historic southern gateway, the Rhône River is 505 mi (813 km) long. It is Alpine in character, and its course has been shaped by neighboring mountain systems. Rising in the Swiss Alps, it flows into Lake Geneva, and then crosses into France through the Jura Mountains. The Rhône continues south through Lyon, Avignon, and Tarascon to Arles and enters the Mediterranean west of Marseille. Along its shores are some of France's best-known wine regions.
