As part of our onboard cultural enrichment program and commitment to destination-focused learning, our Viking Resident Historian faculty provides guests with lectures and roundtable discussions on the arts, architecture, music and culture of upcoming ports and various aspects of world history.

Disembark your ship and transfer to the airport for your flight to Cancun, where you will be greeted by your Viking Representative. Board a motor coach for the journey to Valladolid, pausing for lunch, and arrive at your hotel. After checking in, set out for a guided tour to see the sights, including Calzada de los Frailes and the Convento de San Bernardino de Siena. After, enjoy dinner at a local restaurant. (L, D)

This morning after breakfast, check out of your hotel and begin your journey to Mérida. Along the way you will stop in Izamal to visit the Convento de San Antonio de Padua and to stroll the city’s famed streets lined with yellow-hued colonial buildings. Enjoy a traditional lunch at a local restaurant then continue your journey to Mérida. Upon arrival, check in to your hotel and spend the remainder of the day at your leisure. This evening, you will have dinner at your hotel. (B, L, D)

After breakfast, enjoy a day exploring Mérida’s sites. Visit the Casa de Montejo, one of Mérida’s iconic landmarks, and the Mérida Cathedral—considered the oldest cathedral in the Americas. Cross the Plaza Grande and step inside the Palacio de Gobierno to view murals depicting Yucatán’s history. After lunch, visit the Gran Museo del Mundo Maya, dedicated to the heritage of the Maya civilization. Later, take part in a Yucatán cooking class and enjoy the fruits of your labor for dinner. Following breakfast, set out for Chichén Itzá, once a major city of the Maya civilization. During a guided tour, learn about its history as a political, economic and religious center. Discover how mathematics and astronomy are deeply connected to the site’s design and symbolism, then enjoy lunch before visiting the cenote Ik Kil, an open air sink hole famed for its clear waters and draping vines. After, transfer to Cancun and check in to your hotel for an evening at your leisure. (B, L)
