As part of our onboard cultural enrichment program and commitment to destination-focused learning, our Viking Resident Historian faculty provides guests with lectures and roundtable discussions on the arts, architecture, music and culture of upcoming ports and various aspects of world history.
Disembark your ship in Reykjavík and transfer to the airport for your flight to Dublin. At Dublin Airport, you will be greeted by a Viking Representative and transferred to your hotel—along the way, pause at Malahide Castle for a guided tour of this historic estate. Walk through elegantly appointed rooms and learn about its former residents, the Talbot family, as you explore. After lunch at a nearby restaurant, continue to your hotel and check in for an evening at leisure. (L)
After breakfast, depart for Trinity College, Ireland’s oldest university. Visit the Old Library, home to the Book of Kells, one of the greatest artistic achievements of the medieval world. After viewing this historic manuscript, continue to the 12th-century St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Step inside to see its vaulted ceiling and stained-glass windows as you learn about Ireland’s patron saint. You will have time at leisure after lunch to explore more on your own or join an optional excursion. (B, L)
Following breakfast at your hotel, immerse yourself in Dublin’s rich literary heritage. Classified as a UNESCO City of Literature since 2010, the city’s history includes influential writers such as James Joyce, Oscar Wilde and more. Accompanied by your guide, explore the city on foot and visit some of Dublin’s historic pubs as you learn about these literary legends. Later, you will have a classic pub dinner while enjoying a performance of traditional Irish music. (B, D)
After breakfast, check out of your hotel and transfer to the airport for your flight home. (B)
