About this ship

Le Commandant Charcot

Le Commandant Charcot is Ponant’s revolutionary polar exploration vessel and the first luxury hybrid-electric ship powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). Designed for up to 245 guests, it sets a new standard in sustainable expedition cruising while offering access to some of the planet’s most remote regions, including the Geographic North Pole, the Weddell Sea, and the Ross Sea. With Polar Class 2 icebreaking capability, the ship ventures into areas previously reserved for scientific missions, combining cutting-edge technology with refined French elegance.

Interiors are inspired by the polar environment, featuring clean lines, natural materials, and panoramic windows throughout. Guests enjoy a range of luxurious amenities including multiple lounges, a wellness center with spa and snow room, a theater, an indoor pool, and the Blue Lagoon—an outdoor heated lagoon with firepit lounge. The ship also includes a winter garden and observation areas designed for maximum comfort in extreme conditions.

All accommodations are ocean-facing, with most featuring private balconies. Staterooms and suites are designed for comfort and tranquility, with high-end furnishings, spacious layouts, and thoughtful amenities. Larger suites offer added living space, butler service, and access to exclusive areas.

Dining is led by Ducasse Conseil, offering refined French and international cuisine across several venues. Menus reflect regional influences and feature fresh, seasonal ingredients, complemented by a curated wine selection.

In addition to hosting travelers, Le Commandant Charcot supports scientific research with onboard laboratories and partnerships. Expedition teams of naturalists and scientists lead Zodiac excursions, ice landings, and polar activities such as kayaking and citizen science. With its combination of innovation, luxury, and deep environmental respect, Le Commandant Charcot redefines the limits of high-end polar travel.
