Silver Wind is one of Silversea’s most enduring and beloved ships, reborn as an expedition vessel with the grace of a classic luxury liner. Initially launched in 1995, Silver Wind underwent a significant refurbishment in 2018, followed by a complete transformation into an ice-class expedition ship in 2021. Now boasting a Polar Class 6 rating, Silver Wind is capable of navigating both remote polar waters and traditional luxury destinations—all with Silversea’s trademark elegance and intimacy.
With a capacity for just 274 guests (reduced to 200 in polar regions), Silver Wind offers an uncrowded and personalized experience, supported by a staff of nearly 239 crew members. This close crew-to-guest ratio ensures attentive service whether you're sipping champagne in your suite or boarding a Zodiac for an Arctic landing.
Silver Wind’s all-suite accommodations remain among the most spacious in her class. Every suite features ocean views, with many offering private verandas. Interior spaces blend warmth and sophistication, with marble bathrooms, premium bedding, walk-in closets, and butler service standard in all categories. From the cozy Vista Suites to the opulent Owner’s, Royal, and Grand Suites, Silver Wind’s accommodations are as indulgent as they are functional for expedition cruising.
Though now tailored for exploration, Silver Wind retains a full suite of luxury amenities. Guests can dine at The Restaurant for elegant international cuisine or enjoy Italian classics at La Terrazza. The Grill provides casual al fresco dining with Silversea’s signature lava stone experience. La Dame offers gourmet French cuisine in an intimate setting. These venues maintain the fine dining standards Silversea is known for, even in the world’s most remote destinations.
Expedition capabilities define Silver Wind’s transformation. The ship carries 24 Zodiacs, a fleet of kayaks, and a team of expert expedition staff who guide daily shore landings and lectures. Guests enjoy up-close encounters with polar wildlife, stunning glacial landscapes, and rare cultural experiences. The ship’s reinforced hull allows it to venture safely through ice-packed waters in Antarctica and the Arctic.
Educational enrichment is at the heart of the experience aboard Silver Wind. The Explorer Lounge hosts daily briefings, science talks, and photography workshops led by onboard experts. The Observation Lounge offers panoramic views, ideal for whale-watching or enjoying the midnight sun. Between adventures, guests can relax in the Zagara Spa, visit the fitness center, or enjoy quiet reflection in the library.
Silver Wind’s itineraries span both traditional and expedition destinations. She explores Antarctica, the Arctic, the British Isles, the Norwegian fjords, West Africa, and the Mediterranean. This rare dual capability—luxury and exploration—makes Silver Wind uniquely versatile. Whether you’re seeking immersive polar discovery or leisurely port calls in Europe, Silver Wind delivers a refined and flexible cruising experience.
Blending classic charm with modern expedition readiness, Silver Wind is a ship that caters to the world traveler who values comfort, adventure, and personalized service. Her transformation is a testament to Silversea’s commitment to evolving luxury travel while honoring its heritage. For those ready to explore the edges of the Earth—or revisit favorite ports in elevated style—Silver Wind offers a voyage of elegance and excitement.
Dining
The 274-guest Silver Wind Expedition serves included, open-seating meals between landings. The Restaurant anchors dinner, La Terrazza turns to Italian, and La Dame offers French classics. The Grill keeps lunch and warm evenings on deck relaxed, with cooking done right at the table.

Good to know
Standard Wi-Fi is free and unlimited in every suite, one device at a time, and handles browsing, messaging, and email. Premium Wi-Fi, which supports streaming and video calls, costs extra but is complimentary in the upper suite categories and for full World Cruise guests.
Days are relaxed, comparable to five-star resort wear. From 6:00 p.m. evenings are Elegant Casual, with Formal Optional nights that scale with voyage length: none on sailings of 7 days or fewer, one or two on 8 to 14 days, two or more on longer voyages. Jackets are always optional and formal wear is never required. Expedition ships stay Elegant Casual throughout.
Shipboard gratuities are included in the fare, with spa services the one exception, so there is no working out who to tip on board. Tips for shore-excursion guides are not included; a common guideline is about $2.50 per guest on a half-day tour and $5 on a full day.
Select wines, champagnes, spirits, beer, and soft drinks are included in bars, restaurants, and your suite, and the butler keeps the minibar stocked to your preferences. A short list of premium labels, cigarettes, and cigars costs extra. Silver Origin does not carry champagne or caviar.
Every suite in every category comes with butler service, backed by a crew-to-guest ratio close to one to one. Butlers unpack your bags, serve in-suite breakfast, restock the minibar daily, and arrange laundry. In-suite dining runs around the clock.
Special diets are accommodated on request. Tell us when you book so the details reach Silversea at least 75 days before sailing. Guests with allergies can also arrange hypoallergenic detergent for their bedding in advance.
Most ships carry dedicated wheelchair-accessible suites, though Silver Origin has none, and public areas include accessible restrooms and Braille signage in the elevators. Mobility needs must be flagged before sailing, and guests who use a wheelchair throughout the cruise bring their own collapsible chair. We handle the arrangements with Silversea when you book.
Suites, balconies, and most public areas are nonsmoking. Smoking, including e-cigarettes and cigars, is permitted in the Connoisseur's Corner, plus a few designated outdoor spots that vary by ship.
A self-service launderette with machines, irons, and supplies is free on every ship except Silver Origin. Valet laundry and pressing are available for a fee through your butler, and come complimentary in the higher suite categories.
Silversea is an adult-oriented line: there are no children's programs, childcare, or babysitting on board. Infants under 6 months cannot sail, and the expedition ships, including Silver Endeavour, Silver Cloud, Silver Origin, and Silver Wind, do not take children under 5.

Silversea is a leader in luxury small-ship travel, with intimate, refined voyages that pair personal service with real exploration. Founded in 1994, it has built a reputation for attentive hospitality and a reach that extends to more than 900 destinations across all seven continents. Its fleet of ocean and expedition ships lets guests move between landmark ports and genuinely remote regions in comfort, on the same brand standard throughout.
Silversea's fleet is built around boutique, all-suite ships, each designed for space, privacy, and a polished onboard feel. Whether you sail a classic ocean ship or join an expedition voyage, you can expect:
Every Silversea ship is intimate in scale, which supports a personal style of service and lets the fleet call at smaller ports that larger lines often pass by.
Silversea holds one of the broadest destination portfolios in luxury cruising, calling at more than 900 locations worldwide. Picture the ice of Antarctica, the warmth of the Mediterranean, or the quiet coves of the South Pacific. The line builds each route to deliver depth rather than just mileage.
Each itinerary is shaped to blend culture, exploration, and rest, so guests get the most out of every destination with expert-led excursions and luxury accommodations.
Silversea pairs its service standards with a commitment to responsible travel. The line invests in environmentally minded practices, supports the communities it visits, and backs conservation work. Guests can explore widely while helping protect the places that make these voyages worth taking.
At Small Ship Travel we keep our recommendations tight, choosing the small-ship lines we know well and would sail ourselves. Silversea holds its place in that selection on the strength of its service, its dining, and the depth of its itineraries.
Working with Silversea, we arrange tailored itineraries and handle the planning around them, so the trip comes together cleanly. Whether you want a luxury escape to the Mediterranean or an expedition to the Arctic, we build the voyage around how you actually want to travel.
Booking through Small Ship Travel brings advisor guidance, personal service, and added value on your Silversea voyage. From pre- and post-cruise stays to private shore excursions and the travel logistics in between, we look after the detail so you can relax into the sailing.
