Viking River Cruises is expanding its reach into India with the introduction of the Viking Brahmaputra, scheduled to debut in late 2027. This new vessel will be custom-built for the Brahmaputra River in Assam, designed to navigate the region’s unique conditions while offering guests the refined comfort and Scandinavian design Viking is known for.

The Viking Brahmaputra will accommodate just 80 guests in 40 outside staterooms, each with floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors and private verandas. The ship will feature a modern yet locally inspired interior, with natural materials and clean lines that reflect Viking’s understated aesthetic. Onboard amenities will include a panoramic lounge, a restaurant with river views, a spa and fitness center, and an open-air Sky Bar on the upper deck.

The ship will sail the 15-day "Wonders of India" itinerary, which combines an eight-day river cruise between Guwahati and Nimati Ghat with a fully guided land program through Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur. Highlights include visits to the Taj Mahal, Jaipur’s Palace of Winds, Guwahati’s ancient temples, and Kaziranga National Park, known for its population of one-horned rhinoceroses. The journey also includes cultural immersion on Majuli Island, one of the world's largest river islands.

Travelers will enjoy 13 guided tours, many of which feature UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Optional pre- and post-cruise extensions are available in destinations such as Kathmandu, Cochin, Mumbai, and Dubai.

Explorer Suite

The Explorer Suite aboard Viking Brahmaputra offers the pinnacle of luxury river cruising in Northeast India. At approximately 525 square feet, these expansive suites feature a separate living room and bedroom, both opening onto a full-sized private veranda through floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors. This layout maximizes light and connection to the river's dynamic landscapes, whether guests are sailing past rural Assamese villages or docking near the wildlife-rich Kaziranga floodplains.

Inside, the suite is appointed with Scandinavian-inspired furnishings, natural textiles, and warm wood finishes. A king-size bed with fine linens, two flat-screen televisions, and a stocked minibar elevate the residential feel. The bathroom is equally well-appointed, offering a large glass-enclosed shower, anti-fog mirror, and premium Freyja bath products. Guests also enjoy exclusive perks such as complimentary laundry service, room service for breakfast, daily fresh fruit, a Silver Spirits beverage package, and private airport transfers.

Veranda Stateroom A

Category A Veranda Staterooms offer a comfortable 239-square-foot haven designed for those who want direct access to the river's ever-changing scenery. Each room features a full-sized veranda, ideal for watching the sun rise over the Ganges tributaries or sipping tea during a tranquil afternoon sail. Floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors allow natural light to flood the space, highlighting Viking’s signature minimalist décor and soothing color palette.

The room includes a hotel-style queen bed, a flat-screen TV with infotainment options, complimentary Wi-Fi, and a spacious bathroom with a glass-enclosed shower and Freyja amenities. Thoughtful details like daily bottled water, plush robes upon request, and twice-daily housekeeping complete the experience.

Veranda Stateroom B

Category B Veranda Staterooms mirror the layout and features of Category A but are located slightly lower on the ship. Still offering a full-sized private veranda and floor-to-ceiling glass doors, these staterooms provide the same expansive river views and serene interior design, inspired by Viking’s Nordic heritage.

Guests can expect a queen-size bed with high-quality linens, a flat-screen entertainment system, a well-appointed bathroom, and thoughtful touches such as a personal safe, hair dryer, individual climate control, and a refrigerator. Ideal for guests who value fresh air and a scenic perch, Category B provides excellent value with an elevated standard of comfort.

Veranda Stateroom C

sq. feet

-

Category C Veranda Staterooms offer all the essential comforts of Viking’s veranda accommodations, including the same 239-square-foot footprint and private veranda, but with a more accessible deck location and exceptional proximity to onboard amenities. These staterooms are ideal for guests who prioritize convenience and appreciate the full suite of in-room comforts without additional frills.

Equipped with a queen-size bed, entertainment center, spacious bathroom, and a veranda ideal for open-air relaxation, Category C is a smart choice for travelers seeking immersion and comfort without compromise.

Why Viking River Cruises

Viking River Cruises

Viking River Cruises is the largest river cruise line in the world, known for elegant ships, destination-led itineraries, and a strong cultural program. The voyages run along Europe's great rivers and reach the Nile, the Mekong, and the Mississippi, pairing comfort and enrichment with real time ashore. A modern fleet of purpose-built longships and a focus on thoughtful design set the tone for the whole experience.

The Viking River Experience: Purposeful Design, Meaningful Travel

Viking's river ships are built for comfort and discovery in equal measure, with a relaxed but refined feel on board. Each carries fewer than 200 guests, so the setting stays intimate, with generous public areas, all-outside staterooms, and attentive service from departure to return.

  • All-outside staterooms, many with full verandas or French balconies
  • Destination-led cuisine and wine pairings in both casual and formal dining venues
  • An included daily shore excursion with knowledgeable local guides
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi, 24-hour specialty coffees, and onboard cultural enrichment
  • An adults-only environment (guests must be 18 or older)
  • Carefully chosen programming, from lectures and tastings to concerts and hands-on workshops

Built for discovery, Viking's river cruises ask you to slow down and read each region more closely than a packed land tour allows.

Iconic Itineraries Across Europe and Beyond

Whether you sail the heart of Europe or reach farther afield, Viking's itineraries balance the must-see landmarks with the smaller places that travelers tend to miss. Longer port time, well-built excursions, and curated cultural access run through every voyage.

Signature Voyages Include:

  • Grand European Tour, cruising the Rhine, Main, and Danube between Amsterdam and Budapest, with historic cities, castles, and vineyards along the way.
  • Danube Waltz, taking in the Old World charm of Austria, Hungary, and Slovakia through grand capitals and storybook towns.
  • Rhine Getaway, visiting Cologne, Strasbourg, and the castles of the Middle Rhine on a scenic route through four countries.
  • Paris and the Heart of Normandy, running through the French countryside from Paris to the Normandy beaches, with real depth on history, art, and food.
  • Pharaohs and Pyramids, sailing the Nile aboard a Viking-owned vessel for a close look at ancient Egypt.
  • Magnificent Mekong, an enriching route through Vietnam and Cambodia aboard the 80-guest Viking Saigon.

Every itinerary reflects Viking's interest in history, culture, and authenticity, giving guests an educational way to see the world.
