Viking River Cruises is expanding its reach into India with the introduction of the Viking Brahmaputra, scheduled to debut in late 2027. This new vessel will be custom-built for the Brahmaputra River in Assam, designed to navigate the region’s unique conditions while offering guests the refined comfort and Scandinavian design Viking is known for.
The Viking Brahmaputra will accommodate just 80 guests in 40 outside staterooms, each with floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors and private verandas. The ship will feature a modern yet locally inspired interior, with natural materials and clean lines that reflect Viking’s understated aesthetic. Onboard amenities will include a panoramic lounge, a restaurant with river views, a spa and fitness center, and an open-air Sky Bar on the upper deck.
The ship will sail the 15-day "Wonders of India" itinerary, which combines an eight-day river cruise between Guwahati and Nimati Ghat with a fully guided land program through Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur. Highlights include visits to the Taj Mahal, Jaipur’s Palace of Winds, Guwahati’s ancient temples, and Kaziranga National Park, known for its population of one-horned rhinoceroses. The journey also includes cultural immersion on Majuli Island, one of the world's largest river islands.
Travelers will enjoy 13 guided tours, many of which feature UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Optional pre- and post-cruise extensions are available in destinations such as Kathmandu, Cochin, Mumbai, and Dubai.
