Viking River Cruises
Viking Dagur is one of Viking's state-of-the-art Longships, purposefully crafted to explore the storied rivers of Central and Eastern Europe. Designed with elegance, functionality, and immersive travel in mind, Viking Dagur offers a modern, comfortable, and culturally rich cruise experience for up to 190 guests. Named after the Norse god of the day, Viking Dagur lives up to its namesake by illuminating every journey with insight, warmth, and memorable daily discoveries.
Aboard Viking Dagur, Scandinavian design is more than an aesthetic—it’s a philosophy. Clean lines, neutral tones, natural light, and minimalist furnishings create an ambiance that is both refined and relaxing. The ship’s innovative engineering includes an off-center corridor and a patented square bow that maximize interior space without increasing the vessel’s size, allowing for more spacious accommodations and thoughtfully arranged public areas without sacrificing maneuverability on Europe’s winding rivers.
Guest accommodations are all river-facing and designed for comfort and practicality. The range of staterooms includes Standard Staterooms with half-height windows, French Balcony and Veranda Staterooms with full-length glass doors, and elegant Veranda Suites that offer separate living and sleeping areas. At the top end are the two Explorer Suites, among the largest on the river, featuring wraparound verandas and panoramic views. Every room is equipped with hotel-style beds, premium linens, heated bathroom floors, ample storage, and a flat-screen infotainment system.
Dining is central to the experience aboard Viking Dagur, with menus that celebrate the culinary traditions of the regions explored. The main restaurant features open seating and rotating menus that incorporate local ingredients and regional wine pairings—from Hungarian goulash to Austrian pastries. The Aquavit Terrace at the ship’s bow provides an al fresco alternative, perfect for light lunches or sunset dinners with ever-changing scenery.
Life onboard is enriched through cultural programming and social spaces that invite connection. The Lounge is the ship’s heart, where guests gather for daily briefings, lectures, live music, and socializing. The Sun Deck offers sweeping views, shaded seating, and even a putting green and walking track. With fewer passengers than most ocean-going vessels, Viking Dagur fosters an intimate, community-focused atmosphere where conversations flourish and every guest feels like a priority.
Shore excursions are led by knowledgeable local guides and are included at every port. Guests can enjoy walking tours of medieval cities, visits to UNESCO World Heritage Sites, wine tastings in family-owned vineyards, and insider access to castles, cathedrals, and artisan workshops. Optional excursions and privileged experiences allow for even deeper exploration, such as classical concerts, cooking classes, or thermal spa visits.
Whether sailing the Danube, Main, or Rhine, Viking Dagur provides an enriching and seamless way to discover the heart of Europe. Its stylish design, curated cultural experiences, and personalized service make it a standout choice for discerning travelers seeking both comfort and authenticity on their river journeys.
Dining
Aboard the 190-guest Viking Dagur, the day's meals split between the Restaurant and the Aquavit Terrace. The Restaurant serves open-seating dining with regional menus shaped by the route, and the Terrace keeps things casual with al fresco seating for lighter fare.

Good to know
Wi-Fi is free on Viking's river ships across Europe, Egypt, and the Mississippi, and shared computers are available on board. The connection runs over cellular or satellite, so expect speeds to dip in locks, valleys, and remote stretches of river.
Daytime dress is casual: shorts in warm weather, slacks or jeans, and comfortable walking shoes. Evenings are elegant casual, with no formal nights; a jacket and tie are optional. Pack modest attire for shore excursions that visit religious sites.
Gratuities are always at your discretion. Viking publishes a recommended rate per guest, per night, which can be prepaid before sailing or settled on your shipboard account. We go over the details with you when you book.
Staterooms on Viking's European river ships carry both 110V US-style outlets and 220V outlets that take German Schuko two-pin plugs. If you need an adapter, any travel or electronics store will have one.
Vegetarian options appear at every meal, and the galley can prepare low-salt, diabetic, gluten-free, and low-cholesterol meals with advance notice. Tell us about dietary needs when you book, at least 90 days before departure, and remind the maitre d' once on board.
Guests who need mobility support travel with a companion who can assist, and wheelchairs must be no wider than 22 inches. Viking requires an accessibility form at least 30 days before departure; we take care of submitting it when you book with us.
The ships are nonsmoking throughout, including staterooms and verandas, with one designated outdoor smoking area. The policy covers e-cigarettes as well.
Laundry and pressing are complimentary in some stateroom categories and available for a modest fee in the rest, arranged through your stateroom steward. Dry cleaning is not offered on board. Ships on the Mississippi add free self-service launderettes.

Viking River Cruises is the largest river cruise line in the world, known for elegant ships, destination-led itineraries, and a strong cultural program. The voyages run along Europe's great rivers and reach the Nile, the Mekong, and the Mississippi, pairing comfort and enrichment with real time ashore. A modern fleet of purpose-built longships and a focus on thoughtful design set the tone for the whole experience.
Viking's river ships are built for comfort and discovery in equal measure, with a relaxed but refined feel on board. Each carries fewer than 200 guests, so the setting stays intimate, with generous public areas, all-outside staterooms, and attentive service from departure to return.
Built for discovery, Viking's river cruises ask you to slow down and read each region more closely than a packed land tour allows.
Whether you sail the heart of Europe or reach farther afield, Viking's itineraries balance the must-see landmarks with the smaller places that travelers tend to miss. Longer port time, well-built excursions, and curated cultural access run through every voyage.
