About this ship

Viking Atla

Viking Atla is one of Viking’s acclaimed Longships, purpose-built for the great rivers of Europe. With its sleek Scandinavian design, innovative layout, and capacity for just 190 guests, Viking Atla offers an elegant and immersive way to explore the heart of Europe—from the storied Rhine and romantic Main to the mighty Danube. Whether you're gliding past castle-crowned hillsides or docking in the heart of a medieval town, Viking Atla delivers a river cruise experience that is both refined and deeply personal.

Named for Atla, a figure in Norse mythology associated with water and flow, the ship lives up to its namesake by offering smooth passage and an uninterrupted connection to the riverscape. Floor-to-ceiling windows, expansive public areas, and river-facing staterooms make it easy to take in the ever-changing scenery while enjoying the comforts of a contemporary, boutique-style hotel.

Accommodations aboard Viking Atla range from spacious Veranda and French Balcony staterooms to two-room Veranda Suites and Explorer Suites—the largest on Europe’s rivers. Every stateroom features hotel-style beds, heated bathroom floors, premium toiletries, flat-screen infotainment systems, and ample storage. Light woods, soft fabrics, and clean lines echo the ship’s Nordic heritage, creating a serene space to rest and recharge.

Public areas are thoughtfully designed to foster both relaxation and connection. The Observation Lounge and Aquavit Terrace feature floor-to-ceiling glass that blurs the line between ship and riverbank. Whether you’re enjoying a quiet sunrise coffee or sharing a cocktail at sunset, the ambiance is always one of calm sophistication. The Sun Deck offers loungers, shaded seating, and a walking track—perfect for taking in panoramic views as the ship passes through locks, vineyards, and timeless villages.

Dining on Viking Atla is both a culinary and cultural journey. The main restaurant serves regionally inspired menus, crafted from fresh, seasonal ingredients sourced locally along the route. Complimentary beer, wine, and soft drinks accompany lunch and dinner, while alternative dining on the Aquavit Terrace offers a more casual al fresco option. With open seating and no formal dress code, meals are relaxed, social, and deeply satisfying.

Daily shore excursions are included at every port, led by expert local guides and designed to reveal the cultural, historical, and culinary heart of each destination. Optional in-depth tours—such as home-hosted visits, wine tastings, or behind-the-scenes experiences—offer added enrichment for those seeking deeper exploration. Onboard programming includes lectures, regional music, and cultural demonstrations that complement the day’s discoveries.
